I started Saaramati in March 2020. Honestly, it wasn't some grand plan. Just a stubborn little itch to go looking for the kind of sarees I grew up seeing in my paati's wardrobe — the ones that smelled of vetiver, camphor, and stories.
Five years in, Saaramati has become something I never imagined — a space where long-lost South Indian weaves like Muthu Kattam, Vaira Oosi, and Thirubuvanam pattu get to breathe again. Not as museum pieces, but as sarees you can actually wear, dance in, spill sambar on, and pass on to your daughter.
We don't launch "collections." We find gems. We fall in love. We beg a weaver to make just ten more. And we share them with people like you — the ones who get it.
Saaramati is rooted, like a neem tree outside a temple. It holds culture, chaos, memory, and mood swings — all in six yards. If you're looking for mass-produced shine and factory folds, this isn't it. But if you're looking for something that feels like home, maybe stay a while?
Vision of Saaramati
Saaramati wishes to break stigmas and make styling and South Indian fashion more accessible and approachable to women who want to be true to themselves. There's something spellbinding about the drapes of a saree, with its enigmatic elegance and promise of exquisiteness. Our sarees are inspired by the summers of Madras, the longing crash of waves, and the familiar and warm smell of the earth after a lovely downpour.
About the Curator / Founder - Kavitha
Meet the multi-tasking woman entrepreneur, Kavitha Govind. She is a Chartered Accountant by profession and a fashion curator by passion. Her artistry, passion, charm touch with all those she interacts permeates into everything she creates! We talk about how she started, her inspiration, challenges, and just all about where the magic comes from.
